R2STOP : Research to Stop Neglected Tropical Diseases transmission.
The R2STOP initiative is co-sponsored by Toronto-based international development organization, effect:hope and Leprosy.ie (The Leprosy Mission Ireland).
Its purpose is to promote and fund research that will close existing knowledge gaps in the relationship between hosts, environment, and the pathogens that cause the conditions known as neglected tropical diseases. The R2STOP initiative aims to provide an efficient, transparent and scientifically rigorous selection process of research projects according to priorities set in the R2STOP Research Policy. We seek to provide a high-quality, scientific monitoring mechanism of research project(s) that we support. We aim to develop a platform to encourage collaboration and opportunities for the sharing and translation of knowledge among research grantees.
The initial research agenda addresses critical areas related to increasing the understanding of M. leprae transmission with the heightened potential of improving strategies for blocking transmission.
The initial priority funding areas include:
- Human-to-human transmission (human reservoirs)
- Non-human Reservoirs
- Host-Pathogen Interactions
- Transmission Networks
