Objective: To analyze the clinical and epidemiological profile of leprosy cases in children under 15 years of age in a municipality in the metropolitan region of Goiânia, Goiás between 2009 and 2011. Methods: This is a descriptive of the epidemiological profile of leprosy cases under the age of fifteen, conducted in a municipality in the metropolitan region of Goiânia between 2009 and 2011. All new cases of leprosy, notified and with confirmed diagnosis, identified in the National System of Notifiable Diseases - SINAN were included in the study. The variables analyzed correspond to sociodemographic data, clinical evaluation and laboratory examination. Results: 37 cases were found representing 6% of the total number of new cases reported in the general population between 2009 and 2011. The coefficients of detection of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants found in children under 15 years were: 4.23 in 2009, being classified as high index, 16.94 in 2010 considered hyperendemic index and 8.47 classified as very high index in 2011. There was a predominance of incidence in males. The cases of patients with 1 to 5 lesions predominated and who had 1 to 3 nerves affected in the diagnosis. The most common form was dimorphic and multibacillary classification. Conclusion: The detection coefficient in children under 15 years of age is a priority of the current leprosy control policy worldwide, since it indicates active outbreaks of infection and recent transmission. In this way, studies are instruments of alert to the health teams in order to intensify the actions of epidemiological surveillance.
