  abstract = {<p>Leprosy,&nbsp; caused&nbsp; by&nbsp; the&nbsp; Mycobacterium&nbsp; leprae&nbsp; bacterium,&nbsp; has&nbsp; been recognized&nbsp;for&nbsp;centuries&nbsp;as&nbsp;a&nbsp;debilitating&nbsp;disease&nbsp;primarily&nbsp;affecting&nbsp;the skin&nbsp;and&nbsp;peripheral&nbsp;nerves.&nbsp;However,&nbsp;recent&nbsp;studies&nbsp;have&nbsp;shed&nbsp;light&nbsp;on the&nbsp;potential&nbsp;impact&nbsp;of&nbsp;leprosy&nbsp;on&nbsp;renal&nbsp;function,&nbsp;revealing&nbsp;a&nbsp;previously underappreciated&nbsp;connection&nbsp;between&nbsp;the&nbsp;two.&nbsp;This&nbsp;research&nbsp;paper&nbsp;aims to&nbsp;comprehensively&nbsp;investigate&nbsp;and&nbsp;elucidate&nbsp;the&nbsp;scope&nbsp;and&nbsp;implications of&nbsp; renal&nbsp;abnormalities&nbsp;in&nbsp;leprosy.&nbsp;Through&nbsp;an&nbsp;extensive&nbsp; review&nbsp;of&nbsp; the literature&nbsp; and&nbsp; clinical&nbsp; data,&nbsp; this&nbsp; study&nbsp; examines&nbsp; the&nbsp; mechanisms underlying&nbsp;renal&nbsp;involvement&nbsp;in&nbsp;leprosy,&nbsp;ranging&nbsp;from&nbsp;immune‐mediated processes&nbsp; to&nbsp; direct&nbsp; bacterial&nbsp; invasion.&nbsp; The&nbsp; prevalence&nbsp; of&nbsp; renal abnormalities&nbsp; in&nbsp; leprosy‐affected&nbsp; populations&nbsp; will&nbsp; be&nbsp; explored, highlighting&nbsp; the&nbsp; significance&nbsp; of&nbsp; early&nbsp; detection&nbsp; and&nbsp; management. Furthermore&nbsp; the&nbsp; paper&nbsp; delves&nbsp; into&nbsp; the&nbsp; clinical&nbsp; manifestations&nbsp; and diagnostic&nbsp;challenges&nbsp;associated&nbsp;with&nbsp;leprosy‐related&nbsp;renal&nbsp;complications, aiming&nbsp;to&nbsp;improve&nbsp;diagnostic&nbsp;accuracy&nbsp;and&nbsp;patient&nbsp;outcomes.&nbsp;In&nbsp;addition, this&nbsp;research&nbsp;delves&nbsp;into&nbsp;the&nbsp;potential&nbsp;long‐term&nbsp;consequences&nbsp;of&nbsp;renal abnormalities&nbsp; in&nbsp; leprosy,&nbsp; such&nbsp; as&nbsp; chronic&nbsp; kidney&nbsp; disease&nbsp; and&nbsp; its progression.&nbsp; By&nbsp; understanding&nbsp; the&nbsp; scope&nbsp; and&nbsp; implications&nbsp; of&nbsp; renal involvement,&nbsp; clinicians&nbsp; and&nbsp; researchers&nbsp; can&nbsp; better&nbsp; tailor&nbsp; treatment strategies&nbsp; and&nbsp; optimize&nbsp; care&nbsp; for&nbsp; individuals&nbsp; affected&nbsp; by&nbsp; leprosy.&nbsp; The findings&nbsp; of&nbsp; this&nbsp; study&nbsp; hold&nbsp; the&nbsp; potential&nbsp; to&nbsp; guide&nbsp; future&nbsp; research directions&nbsp;and&nbsp;contribute&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;development&nbsp;of&nbsp;targeted&nbsp;interventions to&nbsp;mitigate&nbsp;renal&nbsp;complications&nbsp;in&nbsp;leprosy.</p>
