This chapter highlights Nigeria as one of the countries where incidence and prevalence rates of leprosy have led to the reputation of Nigeria as one of the high-burden countries for the condition. The hope offered by the intervention of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme and the support of national and international partners such as The Leprosy Mission Nigeria and Netherlands Leprosy Relief is well evidenced to date. The chapter reports on a research study to assess the knowledge of Christian and Muslim leaders in Adamawa State about the condition in relation to their capacity to influence the health seeking behaviours of local communities, which could, as a potential consequence, have a positive impact on levels of disease transmission and control.
