Objective: To analyze the individual vulnerability of people affected by leprosy in Pernambuco.
Methods: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Data collection took place from January to February 2024, during which semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 patients who attended the outpatient clinic of one of the state reference units for leprosy in Pernambuco. A precariousness in the dissemination of information was observed, resulting in individuals with little or no knowledge about their health condition. There was also a low level of continuing education to train professionals in approaching and recognizing the disease.
Final considerations: The study reveals that leprosy is associated with the social, political and individual protection attitudes context, considering that individual vulnerability is based on the individuals low access to health information and applicability in daily life for adherence to protective behaviors.
