While it is rarely fatal, it can profoundly debilitate those it affects, resulting in extreme individual morbidity, as well as a profound financial, emotional and social burden for the families and communities affected. This review of Buruli ulcer details the history, pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of this neglected tropical disease.</p>
