Introduction: Leprosy is a chronic communicable disease as old as man himself. The PHC nursing staff plays a decisive role in the prevention and cure of leprosy. Objective: to apply an educational intervention in nursing aimed at the prevention and control of leprosy. In the southern area of Guantánamo. January - March, 2016. Method: An intervention study was carried out. The universe consisted of 54 nurses who work in medical offices. The data used were collected in two moments, before and after the intervention, and in a third moment a group of nursing actions aimed at the prevention and control of leprosy were collected. The variables studied were level of knowledge about leprosy, its mode of transmission etiology, clinical picture and treatment, forms of presentation, focus control and prevention of disabilities. Results: it was possible to modify the level of knowledge of the nurses about Leprosy, the different clinical forms, forms of transmission; Risk factors, prevention measures, focus control as well as treatment, so it will contribute to better monitoring and control of the disease. Specialists have a favorable approach to intervention. A group of prevention and control actions on leprosy were developed. Conclusions: at the beginning of the intervention there was little knowledge about leprosy. With the applied intervention, it was possible that the nursing staff acquired the necessary knowledge for the prevention and control of Leprosy.
