The data were produced through a semi-structured interview, with open and closed questions, and a script with guiding questions. The data were analyzed by the Content Analysis technique. <strong><em>Results: </em></strong>five categories were defined after the analysis: &lt;&lt; Living with leprosy &gt;&gt;, &lt;&lt; Life changes as a result of leprosy &gt;&gt;, &lt;&lt; Leprosy and social relations &gt;&gt; &lt;&lt; Support and search for confrontation&gt;&gt;, &lt;&lt; Feelings and future prospects &gt;&gt;. <strong><em>Conclusion: </em></strong>the results showed that leprosy leaves profound marks on women's lives such as fear, insecurity, social exclusion, and therefore, needing humanized care, by health professionals, and the support of people living with them, to cope with the disease.</p>
