3 Cases of childhood leprosy in a single family- a wake up call.
Abstract
Leprosy is a chronic systemic bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae. Apart from affecting skin and peripheral nerves, it affects multiple other systems also. Leprosy is a major public-health problem in developing countries. Morphology of cutaneous lesions varies greatly and hence high degree of clinical suspicion is needed for the diagnosis of leprosy. Though leprosy was eliminated in India more than a decade ago, we still continue to see new cases of leprosy Here we report 3 cases of childhood leprosy in a single family, which is the testimony for above statement.
