Lepromatous Leprosy: A Rare and Unusual Presentation in the Post - Elimination Era

Abstract

Leprosy is a multi-spectrum disease ranging from tuberculoid to highly infectious lepromatous poles with varying morphology like hypopigmented to erythematous macules, papules, plaques, nodules with variable range of lesional loss of sensation. Even after elimination as a public health problem, it is still prevalent in some parts of India. The simultaneous coexistence of large erythematous plaque and multiple hypopigmented macules in lepromatous leprosy is an underreported entity till date in the previous literatures. Therefore, we are reporting a case of 43-year old male of lepromatous leprosy having normoaesthetic hypopigmented macules and the erythematous plaque, which make this case unusual.
